No blog may appear for the next days, since I am going on a big adventure. It seems like we (my colleague and I) are supposed to take the night bus tonight to Homa Bay which is an 8 to 10 hour bus drive. It is close to Lake Victoria. A car and driver were too expensive and the office here is also not sure they’ll pay for the bus - we’ll hear late this afternoon (and are supposed to travel just a few hours later). If they don’t, we may want to rethink going at all, because we are here to assist them in their work.
Anyway, assuming that we’ll go, we’ll stay there for two days, doing interviews. Then, during the weekend, we travel down from Homa Bay/Mbita Point to Nakuru/Njoro where, if we get a confirmation, we will do interviews on Monday and Tuesday. Of course, the travel in the weekend has not been organised either, so we don’t know how we should get there (probably by bus, but with luggage and laptops, it may not be ideal and/or the safest mode of transport). If this all happens we now think it will happen, we will be travelling from tonight until Tuesday night and probably won’t have Internet access in between. But we will see a bit more of Kenya and do some travelling and hopefully speak with some interesting people.
Well, plans keep changing and so do meetings: the meeting from early morning was rescheduled to 14:00 and now to 16:30 and that while we are, according to them, supposed to start travelling tonight (and thus need to pack, leave accommodation, etc.). Fortunately we have been in touch with the project coordinator who is willing to help us out so we can leave tomorrow morning by car rather than tonight. We can still go on our travel trip and adventure, but just in a little more convenient way. I’ll start preparing tonight by taking the first malariatablet…
